Today is the first installment of my interview with Dr. Michael Greger, New York Times best selling author of “How Not to Die” and creator of Mindy’s and my favorite web-site Nutritionfacts.org

As you will hear from Dr. Greger, our food supply is anything but safe. He also clearly states that the amount OF research demonstrating that a whole food plant based diet is clearly the best diet IS ABUNDANT AND DEFINITIVE, AND IT CAN HELP to avoid and even reverse the majority of chronic diseases that plague our country.

Screenshot (163)I must confess that I am a bit…………flummoxed. When, 4 years ago, I began speaking publicly about the incredible health benefits of transitioning to a whole food plant based diet to avoid, treat, and reverse disease, I really believed that the overwhelming amount of scientific evidence would be sufficient for most people to begin thinking about changing their behavior. I was in for a big surprise. The reality is that even when presented with solid factual data, most people are simply unwilling or unable to change their eating behavior, regardless of their situation. I have met countless people like myself with cancer who are in the throws of fighting for their lives, know they should be changing what they eat, but continue with their behavior of consuming disease promoting food knowing all to well that it may lead to an earlier death.

I thought if people knew the facts, they could change…………I was wrong. I know now that making the right choices regarding food and behavioral change as it relates to diet is a tough and sometimes impossible journey. I know now that certain food consumption behaviors are as difficult to modify or change as quitting smoking or quitting drinking. It’s an addiction just like drugs or alcohol.

The good news is that Mindy and I have developed a simple and easy system to begin your transition to living a more healthy and productive life. It’s not complicated and it doesn’t deprive you and it works! But you have to be willing to embrace the facts, and begin taking the first steps to true wellness. It doesn’t happen overnight, you need to commit, but the rewards of transitioning to a whole food plant based diet are simply amazing. You don’t need a doctor to help reduce your blood pressure, reverse diabetes, lower your cholesterol, and reduce your risk of developing cancer. You can accomplish all of these simply by committing to a scientifically proven program. Yes, it will take you a while to adapt to a totally new way of eating and thinking. Yes, it will take some time. But anything in life worth changing takes effort and commitment. This is your life we are talking about!

The science is the science – over 3000 studies confirm it. I am telling you the information you may not want to hear, but what you NEED to hear. Let us help you start on the road to a longer and more healthy life.

Bruce, My daughter, Riley Shaia, from Richmond, VA is one of Mindy’s Master Trainers. I am a member of Mindy’s workout program. My husband, 72, has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. So far we know he had a PSA of 8.14 in May,16 and after a biopsy in June, his Gleason Score of 4+4=8. He has type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardio vascular disease. Due to an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm in 2005 and Colon Cancer surgery in 2009, he has heavy abdominal scar tissue so Robotic Radical Prostatectomy is not a possibility. I suspect. conformal EBRT (external-beam radiation therapy) which is a Photon based radiation plus Hormone therapy is what his doctor will be guiding us towards. It has many side effects. We have Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute in Newport News. It is a healthy tissue sparing way of fighting cancer with a 1% risk of any side effects. In a perfect world he would give up meat, dairy, and oil. But my reality is he is a hard-headed meat and butter addict. I have been adding nutrients to his diet, adding tomato paste and cooked tomatoes to as many recipes as possible, giving him black cherries for an evening snack, and cucumbers, carrots, and cherry tomatoes for an afternoon snack. I am going to start substituting vegetable broth for oil, and do my roasted veggies like you and Mindy do them. My next goal is your breakfast drink. (Pray for me! and him). He is being staged tomorrow with a CAT contrast scan and a one scan. Friday we see his Urologist and discuss what kind of treatment protocol we want to follow. I am planning on attending your October 15th seminars in Richmond. Hopefully, I can get him to attend. My sister is on a plant based diet and is going to Dr. Gregor’s seminar in Hilton Head this summer. I know it is all about baby-steps but he needs to take bigger steps due to his present cancer battle. If you have any suggestions please let me know. We have been married for 6 years. He has a lot of unhealthy eating habits. I am a much cleaner eater. I love salads, seed organic bread, all kinds of veggies and fruits. I know he has to want to make the change. I put the three C’s on our refrigerator Chance, Choice, Change (Take a chance and make a choice to change your life.) I hope you are continuing to have good health. Riley thinks so highly of Mindy and you.
